What’s next on proposals to build new health centre for Kirkham and Wesham

People who use NHS services in Kirkham can learn about what happens next in proposals to relocate GPs and other services to a purpose built health centre in Wesham.

A 12-week public engagement exercise led by NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) came to an end on 15 September.

Throughout the exercise, people in the area were informed about plans to build a new health centre in Derby Road which could provide a new base for Kirkham Health Centre, Ash Tree House and Kirkham Clinic.

The new centre could also provide opportunities for other community-based NHS services to be provided out of hospital and closer to people’s homes.

An information booklet was produced with 4,000 copies printed and distributed across Kirkham, Wesham and beyond, and three public events were organised by the CCG. The booklet contained a survey which was also published online and almost 1,200 people – six per cent of those registered with the two practices – responded.

Now the CCG and the GPs want to feed back to local people about what they have been told, how that information will shape any future proposals and what happens next.

At this stage no decision has been made on whether to proceed with the proposals but these meetings will give an update and explain the next steps.

Public events will take place at Christ Church in Garstang Road North, Wesham, on Monday 2 October from noon to 1.30pm and 6pm to 7.30pm, and St Michael’s Church in Kirkham, on Wednesday 4 October from 1pm to 2.30pm and 6pm to 7.30pm.

Andrew Harrison, chief finance officer at the CCG, said: “We are delighted at the sheer volume of responses to our survey which will really help us decide how to proceed with this proposal.

“We have had a great deal of positive responses to this engagement exercise but also a number of concerns, comments and suggestions. Where possible we have supplied responses and included these in our considerations.”
